Faith Involvement Down But Not Out

l

l l l
l Percept's Ethos III Survey indicated that the level of no faith involvement in the United States rose between the years of 1988 and 1998. However, the level of strong faith involvement rose also, though not as dramatically. Where did this shift come from? The middle. People moved either towards or away from faith involvement, leaving the "somewhat involved" middle in decline. l

Listen for reasons for no faith involvement.
l
l
l Sit and have coffee with people at the local coffee bar. Ask them to talk about their views of religion in America and in their own life.
l If they indicate disinterest in faith matters, ask why? What has happened in their life? Do not try to convert them, just listen.
l Gather your leaders and share these findings with them—both from this month's QuickInsight as well as the comments of your interviewees. Ask them to respond to what you share.
